Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Final Break Of Night

Players are headed on their final break of  the night, with the blinds returning increasing to 2,000/4,000/500.  The level will play until there is 10:00 remaining on the clock,  which at that point the tournament floor will announce how many hands remain in the night.  Players will then finish those hands and bag chips for Day 2 on Sunday.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Updated Chip Counts

Level 14 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/400)
Total Day 1B Entries: 442

Players will be finishing up the next (25) minutes of this level before going on break, and they will then return to finish the night.  Here is a list of chip counts from players midway through Level 14:

Dan Wach- 370,000
Vinny Napolitano - 365,000
Yong Kwon - 320,000
John Robinson - 305,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Level Up/Ladies Remaining

Total Day 1B Entries: 442

Players are now posting blinds of 1,500/3,000/400 in Level 14, with one final break at the level's conclusion.  Of the handful of ladies remaining late in Day 1A play, only two would end up bagging chips (Katie Stone and Gretchen Sonne).  At the current moment there are four ladies active in the field:

Anna Khait - 185,000
Sarah Mihalik - 95,000
Aileen Freifeld - 90,000
Jo Kim - 65,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Napolitano Pulls Clear

Level 13 (Blinds 1,200/2,400/300)
Total Day 1B Entries: 442

Ilya Dyment would open the action at Table 50 with a raise to 5,500.  A short stacked player at the table pushed for 26,100, with the action on Vinny Napolitano.  Vinny would put in a four-bet to 67,000, with Dyment five-bet shoving (135,000).  It was another 68,000 for Vinny to call, and after cutting out the chips and giving it some thought, he eventually put the chips across the line for a call:

Napolitano: A♠ Q♠          Dyment: A A       Player X: 3♠ 4♠

Flop: J♠ 9♠ 2♠

Turn: Q

River: 5♠

Vinny would say before the flop came out, "Give that woman a flush."  He had a small reaction with the spade in the window, but really showed his excitement when the board ran out all spades.  Ilya would walk away from the table in disgust, but return after to wish everyone good luck before he left the room.  Vinny is now up to 550,000 with that pot, and has taken a commanding lead in terms of the end of night bonus.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): New Shooter

Level 13 (Blinds 1,200/2,400/300)
Total Day 1B Entries: 441

Vinny Napolitano (Williston Park, NY)
The focus can now shift the the end of day chip lead bonus, with less than three levels remaining in the night.  At the moment it's Vinny Napolitano (Williston Park, NY) at the top of the leaderboard, sitting with 350,000 in front of him.

Napolitano also has history in Big Stax events, finishing third in the inaugural Big Stax 1500 Main Event (Big Stax I).  The second largest score of Vinny's career would earn him over $71,000, with Robert Boyko and Patrick Halter chopping the event after Vinny's exit.  Napolitano has over $567,000 in career earnings, but is still looking for his first cash of 2014.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Names We Haven't Heard Before Break

Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Day 1B Entries: 437

Players will be heading on break in just a few minutes (15 minutes break), and they will return to Level 13 and blinds of 1,200/2,400/300.  Trying to make sure the focus isn't solely on the big stacks in the room, he are some updated counts from notables still remaining:

Dan Wach - 220,000
Anna Khait - 165,000
Mike Azzaro - 155,000
Jake Perry - 150,000
Joe McKeehen - 135,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Familiar Face Chipping Up

Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Day 1B Entries: 431

Ray Ross (Philadelphia, PA)
Ray Ross (Philadelphia, PA) is using his birthday run good over the past few levels, eclipsing the 200,000 mark just moments ago. Today is Ross's 27th birthday, and he's spending it doing something he is really comfortable with...Big Stax trophy events.  Of Ray's eighteen career cashes, seven of them have come during Big Stax events, with his second largest score coming last year when he chopped the Big Stax 300 (Big Stax VI).

Ray would earn $40,218 for his share of the deal, by far his largest of the Parx cashes.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Level Going Up

Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Day 1B Entries: 428

The tournament supervisor has just announced the beginning of Level 12, with the blinds going up to 1,000/2,000/300.  Players will finish this level before going on another (15) minute break.  At the moment, the tournament clock shows (18) tables remaining, with approximately 155 active players still trying to bag chips for Day 2.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Updated Chip Counts

Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 424

Tournament director Tom Martucci has just made note that the combined field is already exceeding the pace from last February, when the Big Stax 300 has it's record field.  It will come down to tomorrow and Day 1C, which should be a madhouse with the value this tournament has shown it has. Here are some updated chip counts from the field:

Chris Curtin - 230,000
Sergio Lourero - 215,000
Yong Kwon - 190,000
Bharath Ramanna - 188,000
Ulises Roman - 175,000
Ross Chapman - 160,000
Dan Rosenberg - 140,000
Ilya Dyment - 135,000
Brian Lemke - 120,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Chapman Triples Up

Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 419

Ross Chapman (New Providence, NJ)
After an open and a flat, Ross Chapman would three-bet shove his 45,000 stack.  The original raiser would then shove as well (60,000), with the player who flatted shoving as well (80,000).  It would be a three-way all-in pre, with Ross live for the main pot, worth close to 140,000:

Chapman: A♠ A♣
Player X: A Q♠ (original raiser)
Player Y: K K♠ (flatter)

Runout: 4♠ 6♠ J♣ 2 J

Ross would scoop up the main pot, tripling his stack to 150,000.  Chapman is known for his second place finish in this exact event during the Big Stax II series.  It was one of only a few Big Stax trophy events to get played out to completion (Michael Wert would win), with Chapman earning per $35,000 for the finish.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Coming And Going

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 414

There is finally some movement being seen from the tournament floor, as many of the shorter stacks from dinner are picking spots to double or re-enter, and others are showing up for the first time.  Joe Steur is one of those leaving the tournament area, as he posts his bustout tweet:
It has not yet been confirmed whether John will be re-entering today or coming back tomorrow for Day 1C.  Two players to enter the field as dinner break include Joe McKeehen (North Wales, PA) and Seth Zimmerman (New York, NY).  Zimmerman have over $85,000 in career earnings, with his biggest score coming here last August, in this exact event.  Seth was one of four players to chop the Big Stax 300 during that series (Big Stax III), taking home $38,904 for his share of the deal.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Curtin's Up

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 409

Chris Curtin
The action at Table 51 was picked up on the turn of a board reading Q♠ 5 8♣ 6♠, with Chris Curtin calling the 40,000 all-in of his opponent:

Board: Q♠ 5 8♣ 6♠

Curtin: 5♣ 6♣
Player X: 6 7

River: 2♣

Chris would fade the river to keep his lead, and knock out his opponent.  Curtin would chip up to 210,000 with that pot, putting himself top ten in the room.  He is seated to the direct left of Dan Rosenberg (one of the other big stacks), so an eye will be kept on the action that follows at the table.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Back In Action

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Day 1B Entries: 403

Players have returned from dinner and the cards are going to be in the air in moments.  There was a small rush of players to enter during the break, as today's field creeps towards yesterday's numbers.  The day will conclude at the end of Level 15, with two more breaks remaining in the night (after Level 12 and Level 14).

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Dinner Break

Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 395

Players are about to head on a (75) minute dinner break which will last from 6:20pm-7:35pm.  When players return to Level 10, the blinds will have increased to 600/1,200/200.  Players will return to finish the final five levels of the night, before bagging their chips and taking the day off tomorrow.  Day 2 player will the resume Sunday at 12:00pm, with registration open for the event until the moment the cards are in the air.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Heroes Who Bagged Yesterday

Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 392

By this time yesterday there were many big stacks scattered around the room, ranging from 200,000-275,000.  Today's action has been a little slower, with only two or three players of the 205 actively playing above that mark.  Here are some notables to bag chips last night:

Phuc Hoang - 553,000
Jason Rivkin - 478,500
Joe Reddick - 393,500
Sean Wallace - 378,500
Mike Cannon - 307,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Updated Chip Counts

Total Day 1B Entries: 380

There is ten minutes remaining in Level 8, with one more level to be played before the active players going on a (75) minute dinner break.  While the focus on contenders for the chip lead bonus really doesn't take shape until after dinner, here are some updated counts from the later stages of Level 8:

Dan Rosenberg - 225,000
John Banh - 150,000
Kevin Tran - 150,000
Tim Little - 143,000
Greg Fishberg - 142,000
Chris Fei - 130,000
Kevin Lutz - 120,000
John Robinson - 115,000
Jim Marty - 105,000
Jay Frey - 100,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Team Kitten Doubles...Then In Trouble

Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 368

Walking over to Table 71, Abe Faroni would be getting his things together pre-flop, as he was all-in for less then the opening raise from Kevin Grabel.  One other player came along, and the three would see a flop of 53 7.  Grabel would lead out for 7,000, with his opponent making the call after a few moments of thought.  The dealer would place the K♣ on the turn, and this time Grabel would put together a large assortment of chips (mostly 5,000) and dump them across his cards (~ 23,000).  His opponent would shove his remaining stack across his cards, and Kevin would be at risk after making the call.

Kevin would be in trouble when he saw his opponent turn over K Q, having flopped the flush.  Grabel would have outs to win, turning over A 10♣ (Faroni was drawing dead).  The river would indeed bring the 2, as the sound of a fist hit the felt (not Kevin's).  Grabel would river a higher flush and double up to 72,000.

It was only a few minutes later that Kevin would walk up to the media table, telling the story of how he just busted.  Grabel took the 72,000 he won and ran KxKx into the AxAx of Greg Fishberg, making Greg one of the chip leaders in the field.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Fantasy Guru

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 359

Adam Levitan (Philadelphia, PA)
The last time Adam Levitan (Philadelphia, PA) was pictured on the blog, he was taking home the top prize money in an eight-way chop of the Big Stax 1000 (Big Stax III).  Adam's share of the chop would earn him $41,734 and push his earnings north of $120,000.

One of the most common topics of conversation at poker tables is definitely sports.  And when people talk about sports, it most of the time leads to fantasy (football, baseball, basketball).  Levitan is likely the most knowledgable person in the room on the subject, as he is one of Rotoworlds best NFL/NBA writers.  If you'd like to have the knowledge dropped on you, Adam can be found on Twitter @adamlevitan.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): New Table Breeds New Names

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 351

As players were returning from break, the tournament floor was quickly setting up a new table in the back corner of the room.  Table 62 got the cards in the air only moments after the clock started, with some new faces sitting down for the first time this series:

Bo Toft ($546,000 career earnings)
Brian Lemke ($1,265,000 career earnings)
Deon Nossel
Dawn Saddler

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Twitter Updates From Break

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Day 1B Entries: 342

The Twitter-verse was fairly quiet throughout yesterday's Day 1A play, but we are beginning to see some updates posted (the following during break):

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Taking A Break

Level 6 (Blinds 250/500/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 330

Daniel Rosenberg
Players are about to go on their second break of the day (15 minutes), and when they return, the blinds will have increased to 300/600/100.  One of the common questions asked by players across the room is, "What's the big stack at?"

The answer going to break is 190,000, and that stack belongs to Daniel Rosenberg.  Research on Rosenberg has not yielded any results at the moment, but anything found will be posted immediately.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Going Mobile

Level 6 (Blinds 250/500/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 319

Eddie Bryant (New Ellenton, SC) is a tournament player who has many spots all over the East Coast on his radar.  His cashes have come at Columbus, Atlantic City, Jacksonville, and Charles Town.  Bryant's largest career cash came a last year at Borgata when he finished second in a $1,000 No Limit Hold'em (Six-Max) event during the Borgata Spring Poker Open for just under $19,000.  The great structure and value offered during the Big Stax series has brought Eddie to Parx, and he now searches for his first cash in this room.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Updated Chip Counts/Level Up

Total Day 1B Entries: 313

Richard Devivo - 67,000
Jason Paster - 60,000
Jevin Lutz - 58,000
Cathy Dever - 34,000
Dan Wach - 27,000
Matt Glantz - 20,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): It's A Family Affair

Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 303

Liberty, Paul, and Richard Devivo
Richard Devivo was mentioned earlier in the day, with the talk about his profitable summer with tournaments.  Throughout the summer Richard had his wife Liberty by his side, literally and figuratively.  There were actually a few tournaments where the two were sitting right next to each other.  The two enjoy tournament poker very much, and travel together to the different spots across the East Coast.  Today they have an addition to the team, as Richard's father Paul Devivo is also active in the field, sitting at Table 72.  Here is how the Devivo family is currently fairing: Richard Devivo (73,000), Liberty Devivo (65,000), Paul Devivo (37,000).

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Level Going Up

Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 285

The tournament supervisor just announced the beginning of Level 5, with blinds going up to 200/400/50.  There was also a reminder for players about the new option available during dinner break.  Parx Grill is located in the main casino, and is one of the best steakhouses in the area.  For this event, the powers that be decided to bring Parx Grill to the poker room, offering a specialized menu today and tomorrow (only during dinner break).  There are only a limited number of spots available each night, with players dining in the clubhouse room (the old tournament area).  Anyone interested in signing up for the prix fixed menu can approach the tournament podium and put their name on the sign up sheet.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): First Player Over 100,000

Level 4 (Blinds 150/300/50)
Total Day 1B Entries: 272

Ulises Roman (Huntingdon, NY)
The action on the river at Table 56 was pretty quick, as Ulises Roman and Yaron Isakov looked down at a board of 3 4 9 2 10♠.  Ulises had put out a river bet, only to watch Isakov announce himself all-in and push across his stack of 29,000.  Roman would make the call as the chips were in motion, and Yaron would tell his opponent he had a straight.

Roman would table Q 8 for a flush, good enough to take down that pot and chip up to 115,000.  Isakov would wish his table mates luck as he walked away from the table, with no confirmation whether he will be joining the Day 1B field once more.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Tables Sprouting Everywhere

Level 4 (Blinds 150/300/50)
Total Day 1B Entires: 261

Anna Khait (Staten Island, NY)
Being fashionably late has been the trend today, with two new tables opening up in the back corner of the tournament area.  Anna Khait (Staten Island, NY) is one of the newest players to make up Table 68, sporting a new hat, as a newly minted member of the Poker Joker Gear team.

Some other names to make up the tables to just open:

Matt Glantz
Jonathan Robinson
Michael Cologna
Steven Sarmiento
Horatio Hu

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Break Time

Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 235

Players are about to go on their first (15) minute break of the day, and they will be posting blinds of 150/300/50 when they return to Level 4.  New players continue to make their way towards the tournament podium to get their seating assignments, including Kevin Grabel and Scott Blumstein.  While it's still very early in the day, the mention can be made of the chip lead bonus for Day 1B, with $1,000 heading to the person who bags the largest stack at the end of the night.  Phuc Hoang's number from last night of 553,000 may be difficult to reach with today's smaller field, but crazier things have happened.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): More Late Arrivals

Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 225

David Inselberg (New York, NY)
Better known by friends in the community as "Coldstone," David Inselberg is another notable to late reg today.  Inselberg broke into the scene in 2010 when he finished runner-up during the 2010 Foxwoods World Poker Finals ($10,000 WPT Championship Event).  David would earn over $325,000 for the finish, and has since added $500,000 in earnings to that number.  Inselberg is another with some Big Stax success, chopping the Big Stax 1,000 during the Big Stax III series.

Other late arrivals to the field:

Michael "Mr. Huge" Hug
Kevin Lutz
Mohammed Farah
Dawn Wilno
Foster Haines

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Cash Game Regs Taking Shots

Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 215

Abe Faroni (Penn Valley, PA)
The newest table in the field is Table 71, having opened up about (10) minutes ago.  There are two Parx regulars at the table, including Greg Fishberg and Abe Faroni (Penn Valley, PA).  While both are active cash players, their tournament resumes are pretty impressive as well.

Faroni has over $194,000 in career earnings, including a WSOPC ring from the $1,080 No Limit Hold'em Event at Harrah's Chester (2012 - $27,353).   Abe also has three Big Stax cashes to his name, including a final table from the Big Stax 500 (Big Stax III - August 2013).

Greg Fishberg (Willow Grove, PA) has over $574,000 in career tournament earnings, but only one cash during any of the Big Stax series.  Greg finished in 126th place of the Big Stax 300 during the Big Stax III series. Fishberg's largest career score came in 2008 when he won a $1,080 No Limit Hold'em event during the Borgata Summer Poker Open.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): More Familiar Faces

Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Day 1B Entries: 204

Richard Devivo (Forked River, NJ)
There are a lot of new faces in the field today, including Richard Devivo (Forked River, NJ) at Table 51.  Devivo is coming off of a solid series during the Borgata  Summer Poker Open, where he reached two final tables and cashed in the $2,200 Main Event.  Those three scores make up $31,000 of his $43,000 career tournament earnings.  Here are some other players not spotted the first lap around:

Norman Rogers
Jake Perry
Fritz Stoner
James Governa
Ulises Roman
Harry Bressler
Tim Little
Mike Azzaro
Matteo Menna
Liberty Devivo

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Who Makes Up The Field?

Level 2 (Blinds 75/150)
Total Day 1B Entries: 185

As of right now, the pace of total entries is pretty much on point with yesterday, so it will be interesting to note how the rest of the day unfolds.  There are many notables in the field that are being spotted for the first time, and a lot of those taking their second (or third) chances at bagging chips.  Here are some of those spotted in the early stages of the day:

Thai Ha
Patricia Knoll
Eric Rivkin
Michael Sandler
Ray Ross
James Sloat
Mickey Woll
Cathy Dever
Robert Link
Jason Paster
Jo Kim

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Big Stax Social Media

Level 1 (Blinds 50/100)
Total Entries: TBD

A common trend from players throughout any poker series is to update via Twitter. Whether it be chip updates, big hands, or bust out hands, the media is always searching the Twitter world for news. Make sure that any and all updates have the #ParxBigStax, and you can also include @matthewaxelrod in the tweet so the media can follow you.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Shuffle Up And Deal

Level (Blinds 50/100)
Total Entries: TBD

The tournament supervisor has just gone over the rules announcement, with players already have taken their seats.  Cards are in the air and Day 1B of the Big Stax 300 is now underway. There has been a buzz this morning on Twitter coming from players on their way to the tournament, and as the seats begin to fill across the room, a list of notables will be posted.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1B): Getting Ready Once Again

Yesterday's numbers looked as if they were going to break records, but just fell short of the 458 Day 1A number from February.  Phuc Hoang (Philadelphia, PA) bagged the chip lead last night with 553,000, collecting the $1,000 bonus for Day 1A.  Other notables to bag top five stacks included Jason Rivkin (478,500), Joe Black (393,500), and Sean Wallace (378,500).  Players will return once again for Day 1B at 11:00am, with the live coverage picking up once the cards are in the air.

Total Day 1A Entries: 449

Tournament director Tom Martucci has announced to the field that (3) hands remain, and once those ae done at each table, the bagging process begins.  About (90) minutes after the bagging, the end of Day 1A chip counts will be posted both here on the live updates page and Twitter (@matthewaxelrod or @parxpokerroom).  The player to win the bonus for chip lead at the end of the day will also be posted shortly after all numbers are verified.  At the moment the races looks to be between Jason Rivkin and Phuc Hoang, both sitting at 490,000.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1A): Coming Down To The Wire

Total Day 1A Entries: 447

Paul Antzoulis (Maspeth, NY)
While it no longer looks like to record number of entries will be reached, the interest in chip lead bonus takes over interest.  Some of the same names remain in the hunt (Joe Black, Jason Rivkin, Phuc Hoang), but Paul Antzoulis sits on just under 400,000 and with those other names falling back a little, it's anyone's to win at the moment.
